Choir Boy is a Salt Lake City band led by singer Adam Klopp, who sings in a high, sustained falsetto shaped by his background singing in church. The group's music draws on 1980s synth-pop and sophisti-pop: clean guitar, warm analogue keyboards, drum machines and, frequently, saxophone. The arrangements are unhurried and melodic, and the lyrics deal with faith, doubt, loneliness and lapsed religious upbringing, which keeps the retro production from reading as a joke. Choir Boy has released albums through Dais Records and is often grouped with the wider dream-pop and darkwave scenes despite the essentially pop shape of the songs.
