DJ Flight
Drum & bass's quiet radical — deep, soulful selections from a scene lifer who has championed the genre's overlooked voices for decades.
DJ Flight began playing drum and bass on pirate radio in London in the 1990s, before establishing herself more widely in the scene from the early 2000s onward. She built her name within Metalheadz, one of drum and bass's foundational labels and crews.
Her radio work continued through a long-running residency, and she became the first woman to host a national drum and bass show, on BBC 1Xtra. Her sets favour the genre's deeper, more atmospheric and soulful currents rather than its harder, more aggressive strains.
She also ran her own label, Play:Musik, which released music reflecting the same deep, soulful sensibility as her sets. In recognition of her career, DJ Mag gave her its Outstanding Contribution award.
Alongside DJing, she co-founded EQ50, a collective and mentorship initiative aimed at improving representation for women and non-binary people within drum and bass, working to open pathways into a scene that has historically been dominated by men.
