Kerala Dust
Smoky, cinematic electronica — Tom Waits filtered through a modular synth, slow-burn grooves for desert highways.
Kerala Dust formed in 2016 and is based in Berlin, with roots in London. The trio work at the slower end of electronic music, combining hardware synthesisers and drum machines with guitar and a low, spoken-sung vocal, and cite blues and American songwriting as much as club music.
The results are downtempo and atmospheric, with repetitive grooves and long build-ups that owe something to both dub and desert rock. Their live shows are performed as a band rather than a DJ set, with the electronics played and manipulated on stage.
