Lowertown
Atlanta duo whose bedroom-folk beginnings curdled into something jagged and theatrical — close-harmony sweetness undercut by lurching, deliberately unlovely guitars.
Lowertown is the Atlanta project of Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg, who met as high school students in the city and began recording together at home before either had finished school. The pair share writing and singing duties, trading and stacking vocals over arrangements that draw on folk, indie rock and noisier, more abrasive textures.
Their early releases circulated online and led to a deal with the British label Dirty Hit, and their subsequent records have leaned further into distortion, unsettled song structures and lyrics about adolescence, discomfort and self-image, offset by the closeness of the two voices.
