Manic Focus is the project of producer John "JmaC" McCarten, who developed the act in Chicago. The music falls under the electro-soul banner: sampled soul and funk sources, hip-hop-derived drum programming and melodic synth work, often supplemented on stage by live guitar and other instrumentation. That approach has kept him close to the American jam and livetronica circuit, where he collaborates frequently with players from neighbouring bands.
