Rex Orange County is the recording name of Alex O'Connor, a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Grayshott in Hampshire, England. He began releasing music while still in his teens, building an audience online with home-recorded songs that combined plainspoken lyrics about anxiety, love and self-doubt with jazz-leaning chord voicings, piano and brass. His early work drew attention from Tyler, the Creator, who featured him on Flower Boy, and his own songs, among them "Loving Is Easy" and "Best Friend", carried the bedroom-pop label into much larger rooms. Later albums brought in fuller arrangements and strings while keeping the conversational, slightly behind-the-beat vocal delivery that defines his singing.
