Saosin formed in Newport Beach, California, in 2003, and became one of the more widely discussed post-hardcore bands to emerge from Southern California in that period. Their earliest recordings featured Anthony Green on vocals, and after his departure Cove Reber fronted the group for its first two full-length albums before Green returned to the lineup years later. Guitarist Beau Burchell has been a constant presence, and also worked as a producer.
Musically the band pairs melodic, high-register vocals with intricate guitar work and abrupt dynamic shifts, a combination that placed them alongside the mid-2000s wave of screamo and emo-adjacent rock acts. Their early EP material in particular remains the reference point for much of the audience that follows them.
