Set Your Goals formed in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004 and built their sound on a mix of pop-punk melody and melodic hardcore, with two vocalists, Matt Wilson and Jordan Brown, trading and doubling lines over gang shouts and fast, riff-driven songs. Their debut album Mutiny! became a reference point for the era's crossover between hardcore and pop-punk audiences, and This Will Be the Death of Us followed with a bigger production and guest appearances. The band's live sets favour short songs, group vocals and an upbeat, positive-hardcore attitude carried over from the scene they emerged from.
