UK breakout with a smoky retro-soul voice and diaristic pop instincts — old-soul phrasing on new-school subjects.

Skye Newman was born on 9 November 2003 and grew up in South East London, an area referenced directly in the title of her debut EP, SE9 Part 1. She attended BRIT Kids, the BRIT School's Saturday programme for children and teenagers, though she did not pass her audition for the school itself.

She has cited her aunt Moona, a jazz and blues singer, as a formative influence, and sang the Cup Song at her aunt's funeral. She has also named Amy Winehouse, Adele, Bob Marley and Eminem among her musical inspirations.

Skye Newman's music pairs a husky, soul-influenced voice with candid, conversational lyrics about family, relationships and everyday life. The arrangements stay fairly spare, leaving the vocal and the storytelling in front, in keeping with the intimate, diary-like tone of her early singles.

Her debut single, "Hairdresser," entered the UK Singles Chart on release in March 2025, peaking at number 15 the following month. Its follow-up, "Family Matters," became her first UK top 10 hit, reaching number five in June 2025, and helped bring her wider attention. Her debut EP, SE9 Part 1, followed in October 2025.
