Australian producer specialising in bass-house with real swing to it — G-house slink at festival scale.
Wax Motif is the stage name of Danny Chien, born in 1984, an Australian producer and DJ now based in Los Angeles. He works mainly in bass house and G-house, and runs the Divided Souls label as an outlet for his own work and that of other producers in the same style.
His sound favours swung, garage-inflected rhythms and heavy low end, with vocal samples chopped into hooks. He has described his influences as spanning R&B, disco and UK bass, an approach reflected in his debut EP for Mad Decent, True Joy.
He has released music through Fool's Gold, Owsla and Dim Mak, and put out a compilation on the veteran house label Strictly Rhythm. His remix catalogue includes work for YG, Young Thug, Kid Ink, Chromeo, Deadmau5 and Warren G's "Regulate."
He worked alongside Destructo on an Interscope album featuring Ty Dolla Sign, YG, Young Thug, Problem and Warren G, and wrote and produced the track "Back to Me" on Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign's Vultures 1, released in 2024. His work has drawn support from artists including Diplo, Major Lazer, A-Trak and Jauz.
