Afroman is the stage name of Joseph Foreman, a rapper originally from Palmdale, California. He recorded and sold his own material independently before "Because I Got High" spread widely in 2001 and became an international hit, followed by the album The Good Times.

His work sits between hip-hop and comedy, built on loose, conversational delivery, blues and funk-leaning backing, and self-deprecating songs about marijuana and everyday misadventure. He has continued to record prolifically and tour in the decades since, largely outside the major-label system.
