Richard Russell's XL house band — rotating voices, deep soul, the label boss producing a revue built on whoever's in the room.

Everything Is Recorded is the recording project of Richard Russell, the London producer who has run the XL Recordings label since the early 1990s. Rather than a fixed band, it operates as a loose ensemble, with Russell building tracks around whichever singers, rappers and players he assembles for a given session. The results lean on soul, dub and hip-hop, usually built from sparse, bass-heavy arrangements that leave space for the guest voice at the centre. Collaborators have been drawn from across generations and genres, and live performances follow the same principle, with a house band and a rotating cast of vocalists working through the catalogue.
