Australian-born, London-based — psychedelic, live-leaning sets that resist an obvious genre label, texture-heavy techno with a crate-digger's curiosity.

HAAi is the recording and DJ name of Teneil Throssell, born in Karratha, Western Australia, before settling in London. She began her career fronting rock bands, including the psychedelic duo Dark Bells, and only started DJing after that group split.

She held a residency at the London club Phonox from late 2016 for two years, building a following through sets that moved across tempos and styles without much regard for genre. In 2018 she won BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix of the Year, a prize that widened her audience considerably.

Her own productions lean on drone, guitar-like textures and looping repetition rather than straight club functionality, a legacy of that rock background. The tracks sit somewhere between techno, breakbeat and psychedelia, often layering processed vocals over restless percussion.

She released her debut EP, Systems Up, Windows Down, in November 2019, followed by her debut album, Baby, We're Ascending, on Mute in May 2022. She has since collaborated with other electronic producers, among them Fred Again and Jon Hopkins.

Live, she works with hardware and effects as much as with records, and the results tend to be looser and noisier than the studio versions. In 2025 she announced a follow-up album, Humanise, released that October.
