Liverpool songwriter whose terrace-anthem folk went from pub singalongs to arenas without losing the crowd that got him there.

Jamie Webster was born in Liverpool in 1994 and worked as an electrician before turning to music full-time, first singing cover versions in the city's pubs. One night a crowd turned the words of "Mrs Robinson" into a chant for footballer Jordan Henderson, and the club he was playing at asked him to write Liverpool-themed songs for LFC TV, which is how his terrace-song career began.

He built an audience through BOSS Night, matchday events tied to Liverpool FC's supporter culture, where his reworked terrace songs and covers were filmed and widely shared online. His reworking of the Italo disco track "L'estate sta finendo" into "Allez Allez Allez" went viral in 2018 and became the soundtrack to the club's run of success under manager Jürgen Klopp, who later surprised Webster at a fan-club gig in Michigan by joining in with the song.

Webster headlined fan events outside Champions League finals in Kyiv and Madrid in 2019, playing to crowds of around 60,000, and performed for the Liverpool squad after their 2019 European title win. His debut album We Get By reached number six on the UK Albums Chart in 2020 and topped the newly launched UK Folk Albums Chart, ahead of Laura Marling, Kate Rusby and the Levellers; a companion live album of football songs, Boss, also charted.

His songs are plainly written and chord-driven, dealing with work, family, the city and local politics, pitched at mass singalong so the choruses can be taken over by the room. Later albums, including Moments, 10 For The People and Running Round the Sun, and a Gold-certified single, "Weekend in Paradise," carried that approach from pub stages into arena-scale shows.
