Mikabomb
Japanese garage-punk played at a giddy sprint with hooks buried in the fuzz — Tokyo-to-London racket with a grin.
Mikabomb formed in Tokyo and later based themselves in London, arriving during a period when Japanese punk and garage bands were finding audiences in the UK and Europe. The group played short, fast songs with fuzzed-out guitar, shouted group vocals and lyrics in both Japanese and English, closer to the scrappy end of garage punk than to anything polished.
The band's records and live shows leaned on speed and repetition, with pop melodies surfacing underneath the distortion. Mikabomb are remembered mainly as a live act, and for their part in the run of Japanese bands who built a following on the British indie circuit around the turn of the 2000s.
