Scribe formed in Mumbai in the late 2000s and became one of the better known heavy bands in India, mixing metalcore riffing with abrupt tempo shifts and vocals from Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy that swing between screaming and deadpan commentary. Song titles and lyrics draw on Bombay slang, Hindi film references and everyday absurdity, and the live shows lean on that banter as much as the breakdowns. The band played a central part in the growth of India's independent heavy music scene alongside labels and festivals that emerged in the same period.
