Fierce Virginia DIY power trio — psych-rock, '60s power pop, and fuzzed-out metal welded into something uncompromising and loud.

Shagwüf began as a side project between bassist Sally Rose Monnes and guitarist Sweet Pete Stallings, both then members of The Sally Rose Band, before becoming a full group in 2014. The trio released its debut album, ¡Salvaje!, in 2016, working outside any label structure from the start.

The band's sound has been described variously as gutter-glam, swamp-rock, stoner rock and rap rock alongside its core psychedelic and fuzz-metal leanings. Members point to Latin rhythms, power pop and stoner metal as reference points, along with older touchstones such as James Brown, Black Sabbath and post-1950s pop songwriting, all filtered through the same loud, riff-driven approach.

Shagwüf has built its reputation largely through regional touring and independent releases rather than label backing. Its third full-length album, Tres Animales, was released on September 1, 2024, the same year RVA Magazine named the band Best Rock Band in its annual readers poll.

In 2026, drummer Pablo Olivieri stepped away from the band for family and personal reasons after twelve years behind the kit. Brittany Horkan joined shortly after to take over on drums.
