Deadpan Brooklyn experimentalism — Matador-signed art-rock puzzles that groove, absurdist and airtight at once, strangeness with a beat you can trust.

Water From Your Eyes started in 2016 when Rachel Brown, then a student in New York, met Nate Amos at a DIY show in Chicago. The pair began writing together, drawing on New Order for direction and a name, and released a self-titled debut album that year before relocating to Brooklyn.

Amos handles most of the production and instrumentation, building tracks from repeating loops, drum machines, guitar and abrupt structural shifts, while Brown delivers lyrics in a flat, largely unaffected voice that sits oddly and effectively against the noise around it.

The pair have moved between synth-pop, drone, noise and something closer to dance music across their releases, often within a single song. They have cited touchstones as different as the rock band Ween, Scott Walker's album Climate of Hunter, and the paintings of Mark Rothko.

Their profile rose sharply with the 2021 album Structure, which led to a deal with Matador Records and the release of Everyone's Crushed in 2023. Live performances now include guitarist and bassist Al Nardo and drummer Bailey Wollowitz, both also members of the band fantasy of a broken heart.

In 2024 the group opened for Interpol at Mexico City's Zócalo in front of one of the largest crowds either band had played to. They followed in 2025 with the album It's a Beautiful Place and their first headlining tour. Both members also record separately, Amos as This Is Lorelei and Brown as Thanks for Coming.
