Rory Rodriguez's falsetto turned a metalcore band into something closer to devastating synth-pop with guitars — grief-heavy songwriting that broke the scene's mold.
Dayseeker formed in Orange County, California, in 2012, emerging from the same Southern California post-hardcore and metalcore environment that produced much of the scene's 2010s output. Rory Rodriguez fronts the band, and his high, clean vocal delivery has become the group's most identifiable feature.
Over successive records the band moved away from heavier metalcore arrangements toward something more spacious and synth-driven, keeping the emotional weight of the genre while shedding much of its aggression. Their songwriting frequently deals with loss, grief and family, and that shift in sound has drawn a listenership well beyond the band's original scene.
