Hunx and His Punx is the band fronted by Seth Bogart, who took the Hunx persona from his earlier work in the Oakland electro-punk group Gravy Train!!!!. Formed in 2008, the band first toured nationally the next year alongside Jay Reatard and Nobunny, and gathered its early singles on the 2010 compilation Gay Singles, issued through True Panther Sounds in the United States and Born Bad in France.
The group plays garage punk shot through with 1960s girl-group melodies, doo-wop harmony and unashamedly camp, explicitly queer lyrics. Records have appeared on labels including Hardly Art and In the Red, among them the melodic Too Young to Be in Love, produced in New York by Ivan Julian of Richard Hell and the Voidoids, and the faster, harder Street Punk.
Shannon Shaw of Shannon and the Clams has been a long-running member and foil for Bogart, alongside Erin Emslie and guitarist Nik Johnson through various lineups. The band broke up in 2011 after its all-female touring lineup dissolved, and Bogart moved to Los Angeles, releasing the solo albums Hairdresser Blues in 2012 and Seth Bogart in 2016, the latter featuring Kathleen Hanna and Tavi Gevinson.
Live, the band trades on bratty humour and lo-fi noise, with Bogart's stage presence and visual work as much a part of the project as the songs. Hunx and His Punx reunited in 2013 for the album Street Punk and again in 2019, working through personal setbacks including Shaw's loss of her fiancé and a fire at Bogart's home to complete Walk Out on This World for Get Better Records, led by the single "Alone in Hollywood on Acid."
