Popof is the recording name of Alexandre Paounov, a French producer and DJ who came up through the free-party and rave scene around Paris before moving into club techno. His productions are built on rolling, hypnotic grooves and acid lines, and he has released on a range of European techno and house labels while working steadily as a touring DJ.

The rave background remains audible in his sets, which favour momentum and squelching, filtered synth work over abrupt shifts.
