The Broadcast began around vocalist Caitlin Krisko in New York City before the group relocated to Asheville, North Carolina, where it became a fixture of the regional live scene. Krisko's singing draws frequent comparisons to classic rock and R&B belters of the late 1960s and early 1970s, and the band frames it with electric guitar, organ and, on record and in bigger line-ups, horns. The material sits between blues-rock and Southern soul, built for extended arrangements and a room-filling vocal rather than studio precision.
