Mustard, born Dijon McFarlane, is a producer and DJ from Los Angeles who came up playing parties before moving into production in the early 2010s. His signature sound is sparse and bass-heavy, built on simple synth lines, handclaps and a bouncing rhythm often traced back to Bay Area hyphy and LA ratchet music, and it dominated West Coast rap radio for several years.
Tracks such as Tyga's "Rack City" and a long run of work with YG established the template, and he has since produced for a wide range of rap and R&B artists while releasing albums under his own name and running the 10 Summers label.
