Glasgow trio pairing Lauren Mayberry's clear high vocal with synth hooks built big enough to fill a field, sharp lyrics under the shine.

CHVRCHES formed in Glasgow in 2011 around Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty, all of whom had played in other Scottish bands beforehand. Mayberry sings lead, Cook and Doherty handle synths and programming, and Doherty takes occasional vocals. Their songs pair bright, heavily sequenced electronics with melodies written for volume, and the words underneath are frequently about anger, grief or being underestimated.

Mayberry has spoken publicly about the online abuse directed at her since the band's first record, and the subject has worked its way into their writing. The trio produces its own material.
