Derrick Carter is a DJ and producer from Chicago and one of the figures who carried the city's house tradition into the 1990s and beyond. He came up through the local party scene and was involved with Classic Music Company, the label he ran with Luke Solomon, and with the Blue Cucaracha and Sound Patrol projects.
As a DJ he is known for technical command and a broad, unpredictable record selection that moves between disco edits, deep house, jacking Chicago tracks and oddities, often mixed at length. His Fabric mix and his long-running residencies helped establish his reputation outside the United States.
