Mike Dunn

1 festival played

One of Chicago house's original producers, still making records that sound like 1988 in the best way — delivered with a preacher's baritone.

Mike Dunn is a Chicago house producer, DJ and vocalist who began releasing records in the late 1980s, part of the generation that followed the city's first wave of house artists. His productions are built from raw drum machine tracks, stripped-down basslines and jacking rhythms, often carrying his own spoken and sung vocals delivered in a deep register.

He has recorded under several aliases over the years, among them MD X-Spress, whose 'God Made Me Phunky' became one of his most widely played tracks. Dunn continues to release music and tour internationally, and his sets stay close to the hardware-driven Chicago sound he helped establish.
