Hugel
French producer specializing in sun-bleached Latin house — the kind of record that ends up soundtracking somebody's holiday, 'Morenita' proof of concept.
Hugel is the working name of French DJ and producer Florian Hugel, who began his career as a teenage DJ, drawn to acts like Daft Punk, Carl Cox and Laurent Garnier. He built his profile through a run of house records that lean heavily on Latin rhythms, percussion and Spanish-language vocals.
His first widely noticed record was "I Believe I'm Fine," a 2017 collaboration with Robin Schulz that went gold. The following year his remix of El Profesor's "Bella Ciao" became a substantial hit across European dance charts, going platinum in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and passing 280 million streams; it remains the track most listeners associate with him.
Since then he has concentrated on a warm, mid-tempo strain of Latin house, often built around guest singers and cumbia- or reggaeton-adjacent grooves rather than big-room drops, releasing "Morenita" in 2021. He has held residencies at Ibiza clubs including Ushuaia and Pacha.
He works largely as a studio producer and remixer alongside DJ dates, and his catalogue sits at the commercial end of house without abandoning the percussion-first template. In 2024 he released "I Adore You" with Topic, Arash and Daecolm, his most successful single to date.
