Sharp Pins is the project of Chicago musician Kai Slater, who also plays in the band Lifeguard and produces the zine Hallogallo. The recordings are largely self-made and deliberately lo-fi, building on jangling guitars, layered vocal harmonies and compact power-pop structures that recall the sixties-indebted end of nineties indie. Songs are typically short, with the tape hiss and thin drum sound left audible rather than polished away.
