The Primitives
C86 jangle-pop with a fuzz pedal and one perfect, permanently sunny single — 'Crash', still crashing.
The Primitives formed in Coventry in 1985 and became associated with the C86 generation of British indie bands, pairing bright melodies and jangling guitars with fuzz and feedback. Tracy Tracy's vocals sat over that mix, and the group's records balanced pop songwriting against a rougher, noisier guitar sound.
Their best-known song is "Crash," a short, fast single that became a hit and has remained in circulation on compilations, in films and on radio ever since. The band split at the start of the 1990s and later reformed, returning to recording and live work with much of the original approach intact.
