Spear of Destiny

1 festival played

Kirk Brandon's grand, saxophone-flecked post-punk, built on conviction and reverb — cult-canon status long secured, 'Never Take Me Alive' still the rally cry.

Spear of Destiny was formed in London in 1983 by singer and guitarist Kirk Brandon, who had previously fronted The Pack and Theatre of Hate. The group carried over Brandon's declamatory vocal style and a taste for widescreen arrangements, adding saxophone and heavy reverb to a rhythm section that leaned on tribal, tom-heavy drumming rather than standard punk propulsion.

The band signed to Epic and worked through the mid-1980s toward a bigger, more anthemic sound, with albums including World Service and Outland. Brandon has remained the constant member through repeated line-up changes and periodic breaks, keeping the name active across four decades of touring.
