Eaves Wilder
North London's wry indie-pop prodigy — glitter over grit, fuzzy hooks with a lyricist's smirk underneath.
Eaves Wilder is a singer-songwriter from north London who began releasing music in her teens. Her sound draws on 1990s alternative rock and indie pop without settling fully into either, pairing distorted guitars and loose, melodic hooks with detailed, conversational lyrics.
Arrangements move between quiet, close-miked passages and louder, fuller choruses, and her writing favors wry observation over confession. Her reference points span a wide range, taking in CMAT, Wet Leg, Smokey Robinson and the poet Philip Larkin, and that range shows in how loosely her songs move between styles.
Her debut album, Little Miss Sunshine, is out this spring. It chronicles the change and loss of innocence that comes with the early twenties, carrying the same mix of humor and detail found in her earlier songs into a longer, more sustained set of writing.
Before making the record, Wilder had briefly considered leaving music to join a convent. She decided against it, and instead wrote an album she has described as aiming to feel 'tectonic,' capturing that same sense of upheaval in sound.
