Punk's original teenagers — the band members were barely fifteen when the first wave broke, and the songs still sound like a school-night escape.

Eater formed in London in 1976, part of the first wave of British punk. The group was notable for the age of its members, several of whom were still in their mid-teens when they began playing; drummer Dee Generate was around fourteen. They released singles including "Outside View" and "Thinkin' of the USA" and an album in 1977.

The music is fast, short and unadorned — basic chord changes, shouted vocals, and a sound that owes much to the pub-rock and glam records the members had grown up on. Eater broke up before the end of the decade but have reunited periodically, and their early recordings remain fixtures of first-wave punk collections.
