Splodgenessabounds formed in south London in 1978 around Max Splodge. The band played rough, deliberately shambolic punk aimed squarely at laughs, mixing music-hall humour and pub-rock singalongs with the noise of the era. Their 1980 single "Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps Please", released on Deram, reached the UK top ten and remains the song they are identified with. Later releases never repeated that success, but the band has continued to appear intermittently, with Max Splodge as the constant figure.
